Devils tie Brockport on Hehr's goal

BROCKPORT, N,Y, -- Tied before the game. Still tied afterward.

That was the result of Fredonia State's 1-1 tie with the Brockport Golden Eagles in SUNYAC men's hockey Saturday night.

Both teams exited the game with 3-6-1 SUNYAC records. The Blue Devils are 5-12-2 overall. Brockport is 4-12-2.

The Blue Devils and Golden Eagles entered the night in a three-way tie with Potsdam for the fifth place. Six teams make the SUNYAC playoffs.

Fredonia State's Mat Hehr (Sherwood Park, Alberta) scored with 6:32 left in the third period to offset a goal by Brockport's James Ryan three minutes earlier.

It was Hehr's sixth goal of the season and his second against the Golden Eagles. He had the lone goal in the Blue Devils' 1-0 win when the teams met Oct. 27 at Steele Hall.

Will McLaughlin (Mountain Top, Pa.) was credited with an assist. It was his wide-angle shot from the point which set up Hehr, who batted in the rebound from just in front of the net.

Fredonia State goaltender Mark Friesen (Calgary, Alberta) made 39 saves. Jared Lockhurst made 37 saves in the Brockport net.

The Blue Devils are back on the road next Saturday for a SUNYAC games at Morrisville.
