NOTES:

* Six of the tournament's 12 teams were 2011 conference champions/NCAA participants – Cortland (SUNYAC), Baruch (CUNYAC), Nazareth (Empire 8), Skidmore (Liberty League), Richard Stockton (New Jersey Athletic Conference) and Lebanon Valley (Commonwealth Conference).

* Cortland, ranked 13th nationally in Div. III, has won 16 of the previous 27 Red Dragon Classics. Cortland won the title in 2011, but before that had not won since capturing four in a row from 2003-06. The Red Dragons have also finished second five times.

* Skidmore is playing in the championship pool for the second straight year and second time overall. They finished second in 2011, losing to Cortland in the championship match. The Thoroughbreds are making their seventh Red Dragon Classic appearance (2005-09, 2011-12).

* Buffalo State is playing in its 19th Red Dragon Classic (1993-97, 1998-2012). The Bengals have played in the championship bracket twice previously – they finished third in a three-team championship bracket in 2002 and lost in the semifinals to Cortland in 1993 (tied for third place).

* Richard Stockton is playing in the Red Dragon Classic for the second time. The Ospreys lost in the “Gold Pool” finals last season.
