BOX SCORE
BRADFORD, Pa. -- Fredonia State senior
Jake Nowak (Depew) can now compare notes with his older brother Justin.
Two seasons again, Justin started his final collegiate game and earned a complete-game victory on the final day of the Blue Devils' 2010 season.
The Blue Devils ended their 2012 season Tuesday with a 10-7 win at Pitt Bradford, and this time it was Jake making the start -- his first as a collegian -- after appearing in 23 games this season as an infielder and designated hitter.
Jake pitched the first eight innings -- one fewer than Justin vs. Medaille in 2010 -- and allowed five runs, three of them earned, on eight hits.
Zachary Jordon (Akron) got the final out for his second save of the year.
Extra-base hits figured into the Blue Devil scoring. It began with a homer by
Kyle Koslowski (Hopewell Junction) leading off the second inning.
Back-to-back doubles by
Dillon Lowe (Pittsford) and
Brian Sheehan (West Seneca) accounted for three of the five Blue Devil runs in the fifth inning. Lowe's double was preceded by an RBI single by
Tommy Tantillo (Jamestown), who finished with three RBI while also playing his final game.
Another senior,
Dan Greco (Lockport), delivered the other RBI double in the top of the ninth.
In addition,
Justin Burns (Cortland) was in the middle of three scoring rallies. He had three hits and scored two runs.
Josh Gascon (Livonia) pitched in relief. He was also appearing in his first collegiate game.
The Blue Devil ended the season with a 13-22 record.
