GAME 2 BOXSCORE
FREDONIA, N.Y. --
Michelle Lattner (Cheektowaga) rapped a walk-off double and
Alison Pixley (Hamburg) hit two homers as Fredonia State defeated Pitt-Bradford, 5-4, in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday.
Jennifer Tighe (Hamburg) pitched a complete-game four-hitter to lead the Blue Devils to a 3-0 win in the opener.
Lattner capped the sweep with a two-out double to center following consecutive singles by
Anne Wasik (Fredonia) and
Tina Schwartzmeyer (West Seneca).
It was second hit of the game for Lattner, the second for Wasik, and the third for Schwartzmeyer.
Pixley, meanwhile, batted left-handed for the first time in any competitive game -- high school or college -- and homered in her first at-bats. They were also the first two collegiate homers for the freshman outfielder. She became only the third player in team history to hit two homers in a game. Heather Mercer was the first in 2004 while Pixley's current teammate
Katie Bartkowiak (Fredona) has done it twice.
Raela Wiley (Wilson) got the final two outs of the seventh inning to pick up the win.
Danielle Shelp (Pittsford) pitched the first 6 1/3 innings and left the game as the pitcher of record. Pitt-Bradford tied the game with two walks and and single by Heidi Lucke.
In the opener, Tighe pitched out of a first-inning jam before settling down for her second shutout of the season. Offensively, Bartkowiak had two hits, Schwartzmeyer scored two runs, and Lattner and
Hannah Vesneske (Hamburg) had one RBI each.
The Blue Devils improved to 9-8-1 with the sweep heading into a home SUNYAC doubleheader vs. Cortland starting at 3 p.m. Friday.
