FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State's bid to qualify for the SUNYAC baseball tournament ended Saturday with a doubleheader loss to Oswego.
The Blue Devils lost the opener, 3-2, and then the nightcap, 6-2, to fall to 6-12 in the conference and 12-22 overall.
The Blue Devils trailed 2-0 before
Dan Fetes (Webster) cracked an RBI single in the last of the first inning. A double by
Dan Greco (Lockport), a single by
Jake Nowak (Depew), and a sacrifice fly by Fetes tied the game 2-2 in the third.
Thomas Morris (Syosset) took the loss when he yielded the go-ahead run in the last of the sixth.
Oswego broke open a 1-1 game with five runs in the top of the seventh of the nightcap. The Blue Devils countered with just five hits, two of them by
Dillon Lowe (Pittsford).
Brian Sheehan (West Seneca) and
Chris Messina (Dunkirk) had one RBI each.
Zachary Hugg (Waverly) was the losing pitcher.
Four Fredonia State seniors -- Greco, Nowak,
Tommy Tantillo (Jamestown), and
Josh Gascon (Livonia) -- were recognized following the last home game of the season.
The Blue Devils are scheduled to close out their season Tuesday when they visit Pitt-Bradford.
