FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State improved to 13-3 -- a school record for wins in a season -- by vanquishing Elmira, 16-5, in non-conference women's lacrosse Wednesday at University Stadium.
Sophomore
Katie Kleine (Cazenovia) had an eight-point game -- four goals and four assists -- to break two single-season scoring records. She has 46 goals and 29 assists for 75 points with at least two games remaining this season.
Present teammate
Amy Simon (Amherst) and former teammate
Laura Culhane held the previous records -- Simon with 74 points in 2010 and Culhane with 27 assists last spring.
Simon and
Katie Glagolev (Webster) added four goals to the attack Wednesday while
Morgan McNamara added two goals and
Karli Brinthaupt (Horseheads) and
Chelsea Maderer (Orchard Park) had one goal each.
Simon and
Kaila Fox (Clifton Springs) were credited with two assists. Blue Devil goalkeeper
Casey Chiesa (Baldwinsville) made three saves.
Simon and
Megan Mietelski (Fairport) were the Blue Devil field leaders. Simon was credited with four ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Mietelski had four caused turnovers, three ground balls, and three draw controls.
Emma Schepers and Jessica Blinkinsop had two goals each for Elmira. The Soaring Eagles fell to 7-8.
The Blue Devils close out the regular season with a SUNYAC game 1 p.m. Saturday vs. Oswego. They will then head into the SUNYAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed when they face yet-to-be-determined No. 3 seed on May 4 at Cortland.
