Devils drop opener at New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- 
New Paltz defeated Fredonia State, 13-5, Friday in SUNYAC baseball, the first game of a three-game weekend set.

(9-20, 3-10 SUNYAC), 13-5, on Friday afternoon at Loren Campbell Field in an effort to remain eligible for postseason play in the 2012 SUNYAC Baseball Championship Tournament, pounding out 17 hits in the victory.

The Hawks pounded out 17 hits to improve to 18-15, 5-8 SUNYAC. The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 9-20 overall, 3-10 in the conference.
 
Trailing 6-1, the Blue Devils scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning after a walk, double and a sacrifice fly with a throwing error, but they could not get closer than a three-run deficit.

Dan Greco (Lockport) had three of Fredonia State's 10 hits. Dillon Lowe (Pittsford) and Chris Messina (Dunkik) had doubles.
 
Steven Ramsdell (North East, Pa.) took the loss for Fredonia State after 3 1/3 innings pitched with nine earned runs, 11 hits, one walk and one strikeout.

The Hawks and Blue Devils meet in a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.
