POTSDAM, N.Y. – Fredonia State remained unbeaten in the SUNYAC and set a school record for consecutive wins with a 19-10 road win Saturday over the Potsdam Bears.
The Blue Devils went on a 9-1 run during the second half to pull away and improve to 5-0 in conference, 11-2 overall. It was also their eighth straight win, one more than the 2011 team had to open its season.
The Blue Devils face Brockport at home 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Karli Brinthaupt (Horseheads) and 
Amy Simon (Amherst) had four goals each while 
Katie Kleine (Cazenovia) had two goals and six assists to lead the Fredonia State offense. 
Casey Chiesa (Baldwinsville) made 12 saves, nine in the second half, and collected three groundballs.
The teams played a see-saw first half with neither team leading by more than one goal and Fredonia State in the lead, 8-7, at intermission. After trading goals at the start of the second half, the Blue Devils scored six straight goals – two each by 
Cortney Ciaschi (Ithaca) and Simon and one each by Brinthaupt and 
Morgan McNamara (Oswego). Kleine, Simon, and 
Erin Edson (Amherst) had goals to complete the 9-1 run.
In addition to her eight points, Kleine collected four groundballs, as did McNamara, while 
Mary Bruton (Palmyra) had three groundballs. 
Megan Mietelski (Fairport) led the Blue Devils with seven draw controls to go alone with three groundballs and three caused turnovers.
