CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland completed its weekend sweep of Fredonia State with 5-2 and 12-5 wins Saturday in a SUNYAC doubleheader.
The Red Dragons, ranked in two national NCAA Division III polls, took a 3-0 lead on a three-run homer off the top of the fence in the first inning of the first game.
The Blue Devils were unable to rebound despite solid pitching by starter Zach Jordon (Akron) and relievers
Thomas Morris (Syosset) and
Steve Sturm (Amherst). Morris and Sturm combined to allow only one hit over the final three innings.
Offensively,
Chris Messina (Dunkirk) and
Kenny Johnston (Buffalo) had RBI hits in the seventh inning.
In the second game,
Kyle Koslowski (Hopewell Junction) and
Dan Greco (Lockport) had two hits apiece while Messina and
Dillon Lowe (Pittsford) each had one hit and two hits in the doubleheader.
Starting pitcher
Zachary Hugg (Waverly) was the losing pitcher. Morris also worked in relief.
The two losses dropped the Blue Devils to 9-16 overall and 3-7 in the SUNYAC heading into a conference game Tuesday vs. Brockport.
