CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland completed its weekend sweep of Fredonia State with 5-2 and 12-5 wins Saturday in a SUNYAC doubleheader.

The Red Dragons, ranked in two national NCAA Division III polls, took a 3-0 lead on a three-run homer off the top of the fence in the first inning of the first game.

The Blue Devils were unable to rebound despite solid pitching by starter Zach Jordon (Akron) and relievers Thomas Morris (Syosset) and Steve Sturm (Amherst). Morris and Sturm combined to allow only one hit over the final three innings.

Offensively, Chris Messina (Dunkirk) and Kenny Johnston (Buffalo) had RBI hits in the seventh inning.

In the second game, Kyle Koslowski (Hopewell Junction) and Dan Greco (Lockport) had two hits apiece while Messina and Dillon Lowe (Pittsford) each had one hit and two hits in the doubleheader.

Starting pitcher Zachary Hugg (Waverly) was the losing pitcher. Morris also worked in relief.

The two losses dropped the Blue Devils to 9-16 overall and 3-7 in the SUNYAC heading into a conference game Tuesday vs. Brockport.
