CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Nationally ranked Cortland defeated Fredonia State, 14-0, in SUNYAC baseball Friday.

For the Blue Devils (9-14, 3-5 SUNYAC), Dan Fetes (Webster) finished 1-for-2 with a double and a walk and Chris Messina (Dunkirk) went 1-for-2 with a walk.

Sean Larson (Angola) started for the Blue Devils and allowed only one run over the first four innings before giving up four runs, one earned, in the fifth. He gave up three hits and four walks and struck out three in four and a third frames.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, the Blue Devils threatened when Fetes doubled with one out and stole third. The next two Fredonia State batters struck out.

The Blue Devils and Red Dragons -- ranked eighth in the latest ABCA Division III poll and 15th by D3baseball.com. -- resume their three-game series with a doubleheader Saturday. The first game is scheduled to start at noon.
