GAME 2 BOXSCORE

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Anne Wasik (Fredonia) homered with two outs in the last of the seventh inning as Fredonia State tied Allegheny, 5-5, in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday.

The Blue Devils (6-5-1) were down to their last strike when Wasik lofted her second homer of the season and extend her hitting streak to 13 games, including the final game of the 2011 season.

The game was called after eight innings because of darkness.

After dropping the first game 7-2, the Blue Devils were two outs away from earning a split on the day before Allegheny rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh. Maureen Pallone had a  bases loaded double, Leah Herlocker an RBI groundout, and Amelia Pennington an RBI single for the Gators (13-4-1).

Brittany Lis (Lancaster) led off the last of the seventh with a single to center off Caitlin Nealer, who pitched a complete-game win in Game 1 and entered Game 2 with the task of getting the final three outs in relief of Pennington.

Nealer retired the next two Fredonia State batters before Wasik homered. That raised her team-leading batting average to .459.

The Blue Devils took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a three-run homer by Lauren Larson (Lakewood), her first of the season. Larson also had a two-run single off Nealer to account for the only two Fredonia State runs in Game 1, and lined a single off the top of the fence in center to lead off the fifth inning in Game 2.

Jennifer Tighe (Frontier) pitched five solid innings and left with a 3-1 lead. She allowed four hits and one run.

The Blue Devils are scheduled to play their first SUNYAC games of the spring Friday when Potsdam visits for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
