Devils prevail over Adrian in double overtime

ADRIAN, Mich. – Fredonia State rallied several times Saturday before emerging with a 15-14 non-conference win over Adrian.

Katie Kleine (Cazenovia) scored on a free-position shot with 1:17 left in the sudden-death second overtime. It was Kleine's sixth goal of the game.

The Blue Devils (5-2) trailed 13-10 in the final minutes of regulation before a pair of goals by Amy Simon (Amherst) and one by Karli Brinthaupt (Horseheads) sent the game into overtime.

Simon gave the Blue Devils their first lead of the game, 14-13, when she tallied during the first three-minute portion of the first overtime. It was her third goal of the game.

Adrian countered with a tying goal following a Fredonia State turnover in the final seconds of the first three-minute overtime period.

Kleine helped send the game into sudden death overtime with three caused turnovers during the first overtime session. She finished with five caused turnovers overall.

Morgan McNamara (Oswego) had three goals, Brinthaupt two goals and one assist, and Katie Glagolev (Webster) one goal for the Blue Devils. Casey Chiesa (Baldwinsville) was in goal for the Blue Devils as she has been in every game the past two seasons. She was credited with four saves.

The Blue Devils are back in action 1 p.m.. Sunday at Wooster (Ohio).
