Devils roll over Allegheny, 17-6, to open season

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State scored the final eight goals in its 17-6 season-opening non-conference home win over the Allegheny Gators.

With the Blue Devils holding an 8-5 halftime lead, freshman attacker Katie Glagolev (Webster) traded goals with Allegheny's Kiah Voyer-Colbath in the first two minutes of the second half.

Glagolev scored again at 32:39, the first of eight straight Blue Devil goals to close out the game. Senior attacker Amy Simon (Amherst) had three goals during the run, sophomore defender Katie Kleine (Cazenovia) had one goal and two assists, and Glagolev added a third point with an assist.

Junior goalkeeper Casey Chiesa (Baldwinsille) was credited with four saves while Allegheny's Carly Minsterman finished with 16 saves, 11 in the first half.

Simon was the game's top scorer with four goals while senior attacker Karli Brinthaupt (Horseheads) had three goals. Glagolev was the top point-getter with two goals and three assists overall.

Fredonia State's field leaders were Simon with five caused turnovers and two ground balls, and junior midfielder Kaila Fox (Clifton Springs) with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. Kleine received credit for four draw controls.

For Allegheny, Voyer-Colbath finished with two goals, nine draw controls, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls. In addition, Kelly Dickson had three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

The Blue Devils play their first road game of the season Saturday at nationally ranked Messiah.
