OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Fredonia State's season ended with a 8-3 loss to No. 1 ranked Oswego in the semifinal round of the SUNYAC Tournament.

The Blue Devils (12-11-3) led 1-0 on a penalty shot by Bryan Ross (Livonia, Mich.) at 7:09 of the first period after he was tripped from behind on a breakaway.

The host Lakers scored six unanswered goals, including two in a span of 12 seconds late in the first period.

The Lakers (22-2-2) scored four power-play goals and outshot the Blue Devils, 51-20. Fredonia State sophomore goaltender Mark Friesen (Calgary, Alberta) made 42 saves before he was replaced late in the game. Andrew Hare made 17 saves for Oswego.

Ross's goal was his 11th of the season. He added an assist and ended his four-year collegiate career with 136 points, which tied Francois Albert for fourth on Fredonia State's career points list.

In addition to Ross, Billy Sanborn (Monroe) played his final collegiate game.

Jon Whitelaw forged a 1-1 tie with a power-play goal at 18:01. Zack Josepher put the Lakers on top, 2-1, at 18:13, and the Blue Devils were unable to stem the tide.

Paul Rodrigues had two goals and Chris Brown, and Ian Boots one each in the second period before the Blue Devils broke through on a backhander by Brett Mueller (Queensbury) at 19:18. Mike Monfredo (Shirley) assisted on the power-play goal.

Stephen Castriota (Bellport) scored on a power play at 13:03 of the third period from Ross and Bradley Nunn (Stony Brook) to cut the Fredonia State deficit to 6-3. Oswego's Boots and Hank VanBoxmeer completed the scoring.
