BOXSCORE

GENESEO, N.Y. – Fredonia State was eliminated from the SUNYAC Tournament with a 60-49 quarterfinal loss Tuesday to the Geneseo Blue Knights.

The Blue Devils never led in the game, yet trailed only by two at halftime. A 10-minute stretch without a field goal proved their undoing.

Julius Bryant led both teams with 20 points and 11 rebounds in his final collegiate game. Leonard Smith added 10 points.

Connor Fedge had 11 points and 10 added for Geneseo, which improved to 14-12.

The Blue Devils ended their season with a 13-12 record.

Fredonia State trailed 18-8 halfway through the first half, then outscored the Blue Knights 20-12 the rest of the half to trail at the break 30-28.

Both teams struggled with their shooting in the second half. The Blue Devils pulled within two, 37-35, on a basket and free throw by Bryant with 14:04 remaining, then went 13 straight possession without a basket.

Smith broke the drought with a rebound basket to cut the Blue Devil deficit to 48-42 with 4:11 to go.

The Blue Knights quickly opened their largest lead of the game. Decker hit a long three-pointer, and fed Fedge for a layup on Geneseo's next possession for a 53-42 Blue Knight lead.

Geneseo maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way to avenge two losses to Fredonia State during the regular season.

The rest of the tournament shifts to Oswego, the No. 1 seed and a quarterfinal winner Tuesday. Semifinal games are Friday – Geneseo vs. Cortland, a 75-60 winner Tuesday over Plattsburgh; and Brockport vs. Oswego at 8 p.m.

The championship game is Saturday.
