Late run falls just short

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team dropped a 72-66 game at Oswego on Saturday, wrapping up its regular season. A 10-point run late in the game brought them within four points, but the Lakers held on for the victory.

Sophomore Becky Hebert once again led the team offensively, pouring in 25 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Liz Wierbinski added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Jaimie Warren had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Anna Riley added 8 rebounds.
 
Meagan Stover led the Lakers (12-13 overall, 7-11 SUNYAC) with 22 points.
 
Oswego sported a 42-31 lead at the half.
 
The Devils made a late run in the second half to pull within four points. With 2:33 left to play and the Lakers up 68-54, the Devils would run off 10 consecutive points over the next two minutes to pull within four, 68-64, with 37 seconds left to play. Hebert accounted for seven of the 10 points with a pair of layups and a three pointer.

Fredonia State outscored Oswego 35-30 in the second half.

The Devils (10-14, 6-12) finishes as the No. 8 seed in the SUNYAC and will take on the No. 1 seed Buffalo State on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the SUNYAC Tournament.
