CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team gave Cortland all it could handle before falling 76-66 on Friday night.
The Devils (10-13 overall, 6-11 SUNYAC) led at several points in the second half. Their final lead, 49-47, came following a pair of free throws by
Liz Wierbinski with 9:45 left to play. The Devils led by as many as four points at three different times in the second half.
The Red Dragons came up clutch from the free throw line, scoring its final 11 points over the last two minutes from the charity stripe while only missing on one attempt.
Cortland held a 32-31 lead at the break.
Becky Hebert led the Devils with 24 points, while
Nicole Calbi added 12 points and 3 assists.
Jaimie Warren had 7 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists.
Kristina Kuscht added 10 points and 6 rebounds off the bench.
Cortland (15-9, 10-7) was paced by Brittany Cohen's 28 points – 14 of which came from the foul line – and 7 assists.
The Devils held a 38-34 advantage in rebounds.
The Devils travel to Oswego for a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday.
