FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team dropped its home finale, 67-51, to Buffalo State on Tuesday evening. The Devils have a pair of road games before taking part in the conference championships.
The Devils were led by
Becky Hebert with 19 points.
The Bengal's Bianca Smiley led Buffalo State with 19 points. With the win Buffalo State (21-2, 14-2 SUNYAC) is now tied for the league's best record with two games remaining.
The Bengals held a 34-18 lead at the break. Hebert and
Liz Wierbinski led the Devils with 6 points each. Smiley had 13 to lead Buff State.
The Devils opened the second half with five straight points – all by Hebert – before Smiley squelched the rally with a layup to put Buff State up 36-23.
The Devils would again cut the lead to 11 with six straight points at the 8:30 mark.
Nicole Calbi converted a layup,
Kristina Kuscht hit two free throws and
Jaimie Warren converted a field goal on consecutive possessions.
The two squads played an even second half, with both scoring 33 points. It was the final home game for seniors Calbi and Wierbinski.
The Devils (10-12 overall, 6-10 SUNYAC) wrap up their regular season this weekend at Cortland and Oswego. The will travel to an as-yet-to-be-determined opponent on Tuesday in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament.
