SUMMARY

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Fredonia State ended a three-game losing streak with a 3-0 win Saturday over the Cortland Red Dragons.

The Blue Devils scored three goals in the second period and goaltender Mark Friesen (Calgary, Alberta) earned his first shutout of the season with 29 saves.

They improved to 6-6-3 in the SUNYAC and 11-9-3 overall.

Cortland fell to 3-10-1 in the conference and 5-17-1 in the SUNYAC.

After a scoreless first period, the Blue Devils erupted for three goals in the second period -- two on special teams.

After Friesen made a post-to-post sliding save, the flustered Red Dragons gave the puck away and Mike Muhs (Rochester) converted the turnover with a short-handed goal at 5:58. It was his second goal on the trip and his seventh of the season.

The Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead when Stephen Castriota (Bellport) scored his ninth goal of the season off a rebound at 9:39. Alex Perkins (St. Albert, Alberta) increased the margin with a power-play goal at 17:29, his fifth goal of the year.

The Blue Devils close out their regular season with a home game next Friday night vs. Buffalo State.
