FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Fredonia State men's basketball team won its third straight SUNYAC game, taking down the Oneonta Red Dragons, 57-41, on Friday.

The Devils (10-6 SUNYAC, 5-5 overall) pulled away late in a game that stayed close much of the second half. Amir Billups nailed a three pointer with 4:09 left to play to give the Devils their first double-digit lead, 45-35. They would go on a 12-4 run over the final 2:08 to end the game.

The Devils again used a stingy defense, holding an opponent to under 45 points for the fourth time this season and second straight game. They limited Oneonta to just 24 percent shooting (13 of 54) and held a 44-33 edge on the boards.

The Red Dragons turned in a fine defensive performance as well, forcing the Devils into 20 turnovers and accumulating  14 steals.

On offense, Fredonia State was paced by Julius Bryant with 14 points and Damien Goodwin II with 11. Leonard Smith grabbed 8 boards and 3 assists.

Oneonta (2-15 overall, 1-9 SUNYAC) was led by Frankie Kelly with 17 points, including 9 of 10 shooting from the free-throw line.

In the first half, it was slow going offensively by both teams. Oneonta held a narrow lead the entire frame until Dalton Kashmer cashed in a three pointer with 2.6 seconds on the clock to give the Devils a 22-20 lead heading into the break..

The Devils kept the lead the entire second half.
