FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team used four players scoring in double figures to outlast Potsdam, 66-55, on Saturday.
Becky Hebert led the way with 20 points.
Liz Wierbinski and
Jaimie Warren each registered their second consecutive double-double. Wierbinski scored 12 and controlled the boards with 18 rebounds. Warren had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Nicole Calbi added 12 points.
In the first half, the Blue Devils opened with the lead that would hold up until the 11:06 mark when the Bear's Katy Briedis converted a layup to make it 17-16. It would be Potsdam's only lead of the contest.
Fredonia State answered on the next possession as
Anna Riley made good on a layup. The Devils' biggest lead of the half was seven points, 31-24, at the 3:50 mark.
The Devils led 35-34 at the half.
Becky Hebert had 9 points and Potsdam's Katy Breidis had 10.
The game remained close through most of the second half.
Up 52-50 with 7:21 left to play, the Devils went on a 9-point run to take command of the game. Hebert began the rally with a layup.
Jenna Austin followed with a long jumper and Warren knocked down a pair of free throws. Hebert finished the run nailing a three pointer as the Devils held a 61-50 lead.
Potsdam (4-12, 2-7 SUNYAC) was led by Briedis with 14 points. Katy Arsenault added 12.
The Devils improved their SUNYAC mark to 4-5, including three in a row. They also improved to 5-1 in Steele Hall and 8-7 overall. They hope to keep that momentum when they return home next weekend vs. Oneonta and New Paltz.
