BOXSCORE
FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State completed its weekend sweep of SUNYAC opponents with a 4-2 home win Saturday night over the Geneseo Ice Knights.
Four different players accounted for goals as the Blue Devils improved to 9-6-3 overall and 4-3-3 in the conference.
Corbin Rosmarin (Rexford) scored both Geneseo goals, the second coming with just 32 seconds remaining. The loss dropped the Ice Knights to 10-9 overall, 4-6 in the SUNYAC.
Mark Friesen (Calgary, Alberta) made 29 saves for the Blue Devils. He earned both wins during the weekend, including a 4-2 decision over Brockport on Friday night.
Adam Rubeniuk (West Vancouver, B.C.) had 26 saves for Geneseo.
Brett Mueller (Queensbury) opened the scoring with his third goal of the season at 11:30 of the second period when he muscled the puck past Rubeniuk.
The Ice Knights threatened to tie the game yet had a shot deflect off the crossbar. They also hit the post three times, once in the first period and twice more in the second, before Rosmarin found the net at 18:16 of the second period.
Fredonia State quickly regained the lead on a goal by Bill Sanborn (Monroe), his fifth of the year, with 36 seconds left in the second period. The play began in the defensive end and the Blue Devils rushed the puck up ice. Sanborn ended the rush with a quick backhander following a pretty feed from a teammate.
The Blue Devils opened a 3-1 lead when
Mike Muhs (Rochester) scored on a rebound at 3:45 of the third period. It was his fifth of the year.
Mat Hehr (Sherwood Park, Alberta) completed the scoring with his seventh goal of the season following a scramble in front of the Geneseo net.
The win avenged a 2-1 Fredonia State loss when the teams met Oct. 29 at Geneseo. The Blue Devils are back in action next Friday vs. Morrisville State for the annual Pink The Rink game.
