CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Fredonia State's 2011 season began with losses to University of Rochester and Lebanon Valley at the SUNY Cortland Red Dragon Classic.

Lindsey Olson and Hannah Manning had nine kills each in a 3-1 loss to Rochester. Set scores were 13-25, 25-20, 25-20 and 26-24 in favor of the Yellowjackets.

Brittany Lis had 17 assists and Jessica Ernstberger 11 assists for the Blue Devils. Olson collected two service aces, Jennifer Newhouse two solo blocks, and Emily Linn two block assists in the season-opening match.

The Lebanon Valley went a full five sets with the Dutchmen prevailing 3-2 by scores of 26-28, 25-22, 25-21, 17-25 and 17-15. Olson was again the team's top attacker with 12 kills to go along with two blocks. Manning and Chelsea Senn collected 10 kills each.

Ernstberger filled three categories with 26 assists, four service aces, and six kills while Lis added 18 assists and one service ace.

The Blue Devils are back in action at noon Saturday. Their opponent will be determined by the outcome of later games Friday.
