BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Luke Elston scored in overtime Tuesday as Nazareth defeated Fredonia State, 2-1, at University Stadium.

After the Blue Devils misfired on a header by Ryan Smith (Fairport, N.Y.), the Golden Flyers worked the ball upfield one last time. Simon Mounsdon got off a shot despite a close mark. The ball deflected off the Fredonia State defender toward Elston. His shot glanced off the left post and into the net 7:25 into the overtime.

It was the second goal of the night for Elston, and fifth of the season. Mounsdon and James Wheeler were credited with assists.

The Golden Flyers improved to 3-1 while the Blue Devils dropped to 4-2.

Nazareth took a 1-0 lead at 69:22. Positioned in the box, Elston converted a corner kick by Wheeler with a short header which slid past goalkeeper Bobby McGinnis (Elmira, N.Y.), who finished with six saves.

The Blue Devils scored the equalizer at 76:29 on a penalty kick by Tyler Williams (Orchard Park, N.Y.) The kick was awarded when David Thoin (Buffalo, N.Y.) was taken down in the box while he was receiving a cross from the far right corner by Luke Tylutki (Pittsford, N.Y.).

The Golden Flyers nearly scored potential winning goals twice in the waning minutes of regulation. An offside call negated a ball in the net in the 84th minute, and a long shot in the 90th minute sailed just over the crossbar.

Nazareth kept the pressure on throughout the contest and finished with 23 shots overall. The Blue Devils had 13 shots and Nazareth goalkeeper Kyle Connolly was credited with four saves. Nazareth also had an 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Both teams entered the game ranked in the NSCAA/adidas East Region -- the Blue Devils at No. 6 and the Golden Flyers tied at No. 10. (Click HERE to view rankings.)

Fredonia State is headed to the New York City area for its next two games -- Friday at John Jay, and Saturday at Farmingdale State.
