PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball team fell twice to Plattsburgh by identical 2-1 scores on Saturday.
In Game 1, Plattsburgh opened the scoring with a run in the third. Following a leadoff single by Danny Roeser and a fielder's choice by Anthony Presto, Jeremy Peet walked to put runners at first and second. Brandon Cross singled home Presto for the first run.
The Devils tied the game in the sixth.
Joe Kephart reached base on a hit, stole second, stole third and scored on a Tommy Dee grounder.
Plattsburgh won the game with two out in the bottom of the ninth. The Cardinal's Casey Brighton reached on a one-out single and was sacrificed to second base. Following a hit by pitch, Presto grounded a ball between first and second to score the game-winner.
Angelo Sciandra tossed 7 1/3 innings, surrendering one run in taking a no decision.
Sean Larson took the loss for the Devils.
Plattsburgh got all of its offense in the third inning of Game 2. Brandon Cross hit a one-out triple. Following a groundout, Cross scored on a double by Donny Coolidge. Pat Shaughessy singled home Coolidge to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
The Devils got their only run in the fifth.
Ian Gallagher had a leadoff single. He moved to second on a fielder's choice.
Jon Messina singled Gallagher to third. Gallagher would come around to score on a single by Dee.
Andy Dlugosz suffered the loss for the Devils. He allowed five hits, struck out three and walked none in a complete-game effort.
The Devils fall to 11-11 on the season. They take on Plattsburgh in a nine-inning affair on Sunday.
