FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State dropped to 11-9 overall, 0-5 in the SUNYAC, with a pair of losses Thursday to Brockport.

The Blue Devils fell behind 4-1 in the first inning in the first game of the doubleheader and never recovered in a 9-4 loss. The Golden Eagles also took a first-inning lead in the second game and led throughout in a 6-3 final.

Jon Messina, Taylor Gahagen, and Joe Kephart had two hits each in the first game for the Blue Devils. Gahagen also had two RBI. Vinnie VanAuker had a hit and two RBI in the nightcap, in which the Blue Devils had only four hits.

Jordan Hibbard was the losing pitcher in the first game. Zach Murray relieved in the fifth inning and allowed one run on four hits the rest of the way. He struck out two and did not issue a walk.

Matt Sullivan was the starting and losing pitcher in the second game. He struck out six in five innings and two of the runs he allowed were unearned. Angelo Sciandra pitched one inning of scoreless relief.

In the opener, Messina drew a walk to lead off the game. He stole second and scored on a single by Gahagen. The Blue Devils trailed 8-1 before they scored again in the top of the seventh. Kody Hoth drew a one-out walk, Kephart singled, and Messina delivered an RBI double. After Kephart scored on a wild pitch, Gahagen collected his second RBI single of the game to complete the Blue Devil scoring.

In the nightcap, the Blue Devils trailed 4-0 when they broke through for their first run in the third. Tom Dee and Gahagen walked to open the inning. With one out, the pair executed a double steal. VanAuker followed with an RBI single, but the Blue Devils left two runners stranded.

They scored twice in the seventh -- and final -- inning. Messina walked and eventually scored on a single by Gahagen. A walk to Tommy Tantalo and a single by Dan Greco loaded the bases before VanAuker earned an RBI the hard way as he was hit by a pitch. Brockport ended the threat with a game-ending double play.
