FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Fredonia State women's lacrosse team got back on track Saturday afternoon, beating New Paltz 18-7 at University Stadium on the campus of SUNY Fredonia. This contest marked the first conference game for either team. With the win the Blue Devils improved to 8-1 on the season and 1-0 in the SUNYAC conference.
The Hawks dropped to 5-2 and 0-1 in the conference.
The Blue Devils used a 12-0 run to end the first half to erase an early Hawks lead. New Paltz used a 4-0 run at the beginning of the second half to get back in the game. Fredonia State responded with a 4-0 or their own to put the game out of reach.
Julia Donato led the way for the Hawks scoring three goals. Juli Rehain, Bridgitte Hooker, Talia Tesler and Brittany Bennett each scored one goal apiece.
For the second straight game Fredonia State surrendered a goal in the opening minutes. However, this time the Blue Devils were able to rebound and secure their first SUNYAC win of the season. Sparked by a 12-0 run to end the first half the Blue Devils built up a double digit halftime lead.
The Hawks went on a 4-0 run at the beginning of the second half, cutting the Blue Devils lead to 8. Fredonia State countered with a 4-0 to put the game out of reach.
Up next for the Blue Devils is an April 5 meeting with the Geneseo Knights
