Devils fall to Brockport in overtime

SPENCERPORT, N.Y. -- Fredonia State's post-season chances were diminished with a 14-13 loss to Brockport in overtime Tuesday.

The Blue Devils fell to 10-4 overall and 3-3 in the conference with two SUNYAC matches left. The are in fifth place. The top four teams made the conference tournament.

The Blue Devils rallied from a three-goal deficit to send the game into overtime. Amy Simon scored with 6:14 left, Rachael Reinis with 4:14 left, and Marissa Cussins with 2:04 to go to complete the comeback.

Reinis scored at less than a minute into the overtime before Karen Bianchi and Dayna Piraino scored for the Golden Eagles. Reinis scored again before Brockport's Sarah Brown completed the scoring with 1:45 left in the overtime.

The final Fredonia State possession resulted in a turnover.

Reinis and Cussins had three goals each, while Reinis was credited with one assist. Simon, Karli Brinthaupt, and Morgan McNamara had two goals each, while Laura Culhane had one goal and two assists. Reinis and Culhane each had four ground balls, Reinis added two draw controls while Courtney Ciaschi had three, and Cussins registered five caused turnovers.

Blue Devil goalkeeper Casey Chiesa faced 37 shots and made 11 saves.

The game was played on the turf field at Spencerport High School. It had orginally been scheduled for the grass field at SUNY Brockport, but was moved because of wet grounds.
