FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's baseball team fell to Cortland by a score of 15-3 on Sunday.
Cortland took charge early, with four runs in the first, two in the third and one in the fourth to claim a 7-0 lead.
The Devils got on the board in the third.
Jon Messina doubled and moved to third on a single by
Taylor Gahagen.
Brian Sheehan drove home Messina with a sacrifice fly to make it 7-1.
The Devils made it 7-2 in the fifth.
Dan Greco doubled, and came around to score on a single by
Joe Kephart.
Cortland's big inning came in the sixth, as they plated seven runs. The Red Dragons took advantage of three walks and two Devil errors. Matt Wild's three-run blast was the big blow. Cortland upped its lead to 14-2.
The Devil's final run came in the sixth. Gahagen doubled and scored on a single by Sheehan.
Cortland tacked on one more run in the top of the seventh to cap the scoring.
Kephart came on to finish the game with two scoreless innings for the Devils.
Kephart and Gahagen each had two hits as the Devils connected for 10 safeties in the game. Sheehan drove home two of the three runs.
The Devils fall to 12-15 overall and 1-11 in the SUNYAC. The are scheduled to travel to D'Youville on Wednesday.
