CORTLAND, N.Y. – Fredonia State lost its first two SUNYAC games of the season, 9-2 and 3-0, to No. 20 ranked Cortand.

The Blue Devils (18-4 overall, 6-2 SUNYAC) committed four errors which led to six unearned runs in the first game. The Blue Devils tightened their defense in the second game, yet made one costly error to open the door to all three Cortland runs.

Offensively, Brittany Lis had three hits in the first game and one in the second. She and Michelle Lattner each had one RBI. Katie Bartkowiak had two hits in the first game, and Lauren Larson had one hit in each game.

Jennifer Tighe (2-2) was the losing pitcher in the first game. She pitched 3 1/3 innings and was touched for eight runs, only three earned. Danielle Shelp pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.

In the second game, Ashley LaPorta (3-1) pitched a complete-game seven-hitter. She struck out three, walked two, and both runs she allowed were unearned.

After making three errors in the first game, the Red Dragons (17-3 overall, 6-0 SUNYAC) played errorless defense behind Morgan Kuhn in the second game. Kuhn allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out four. Her teammates made several players behind her to rob the Blue Devils of hits, including three in the sixth inning.

Lyndsay Rowell was the winning pitcher in the first game. She allowed seven hits and struck out four.

The Blue Devils are back in action Monday for a doubleheader at Allegheny.
