Red Dragons rally past Blue Devils

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Oneonta completed its three-game sweep of Fredonia State by rallying for a 5-4 walk-off win Thursday afternoon.

The Blue Devils (8-6, 0-3 SUNYAC) led 4-2 heading into the last of the ninth inning. Consecutive hits by Michael DeCarr and Bryan Marotta scored the tying and winning runs for the Red Dragons (8-6, 3-0 SUNYAC).

Oneonta took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off Blue Devil starter Matt Sullivan. In the thid inning, Tom Dee led off  with a single before he was erased on a ground-out by Taylor Gahagen. After Gahagen stole second, Dillon Lowe deliverered an RBI single for a 1-1 tie.

Sullivan left game after Oneonta took the lead, 2-1, in the last of the sixth. He scattered seven hits of 5 2/3 innings. He walked just one. Angelo Sciandra pitched out of further trouble in the sixth, then pitched a scoreless seventh inning.

The Blue Devils took a 4-2 lead with three runs in the top of the eighth. Brian Sheehan was hit by a pitch to start the inning. After a infield out, Jon Messina walked. Following a change of Oneonta pitchers, both runners advanced on a passed ball. Sheehan scored to make it 2-2 when on a fielder's choice grounder by Dee to the shortstop, who threw out Messina trying to advance third.

Gahagen kept the rally going with a single to move Dee to second. Lowe followed with his second RBI single and third hit of the game. Jake Nowak made it three straight singles for the Blue Devils. His hit scored Gahagen before the side was retired.

The Red Dragons rallied for one run in the eighth and two in the ninth off Andy Dlugosz.
