Jordan Hibbard scattered five hits over six innings of work as the Devils downed Bethel (Minn.), 4-3, in Game 2 of a doubleheader on Thursday. The Devils dropped Game 1, 3-0.
Hibbard struck out five and walked three for his second victory of the spring.
The Devils got two in the first.
Taylor Gahagen had an RBI single, and
Alex Foster added a run-scoring ground out.
The Devils made it 3-0 in the second. Following a pair of walks and an error,
Jon Messina had a run-scoring groundout.
A solo homerun from Bethel's Travis Piepho made it a 3-1 game in the top of the third.
The Devils tacked on a run in the bottom of the third on a
Vinnie VanAuker RBI single.
Bethel loaded the bases with two out in the top of the fifth. Erik Anderson delivered a two-run single making it 4-3.
Hibbard shut the Royals down in the sixth.
Angelo Sciandra picked up the save with a 1-2-3 seventh.
Bethel's Matt Rowley cooled the Devil bats in Game 1, scattering four hits, walking one and striking out 12.
Bethel scored two in the first off Devil starter
Matt Sullivan. They added another in the sixth to give the final.
Sullivan went the distance, allowing six hits, striking out six and walking three.
Bethel stands at 4-5 for the spring. The Devils are now 6-3. They wrap up their trip with a doubleheader vs. Lasell at 9 a.m. Friday morning.
