CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Fredonia State improved to 6-0 with two more wins Sunday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

The Blue Devils rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Franklin and Marshall, 5-2, then took down Worcester State, 6-2 at the Northwest Complex. Katie Bartkowiak hit three homers and Lauren Larson hit one on the day.

Danielle Shelp pitched a complete game against Franklin and Marshall. After yielding two runs in the first inning, she settled down and improved to 2-0 this spring. She yielded seven hits -- only two in the final five innings -- and struck out three.

A solo homer by Bartkowiak leading off the third trimmed the Blue Devils' deficit to 2-1. They tied the game in the fourth inning. After Jamie Atkins reached on an error, pinch-runner Jennifer Tighe went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Larson, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on a passed ball.

The Blue Devils broke the 2-2 tie in the top of the seventh on Bartkowiak's second homer of the game. They added two insurance runs later in the inning. Tina Schwartzmeyer reached on an error and Brittany Lis dropped a sacrifice bunt and was safe at first on a fielder's choice. After Julie Arnold singled to load the bases, Schwartzmeyer scored on a wild pitch. Lis scored on an RBI single by Hannah Vesneske.

The loss dropped Franklin and Marshall to 2-3. That brought on Worcester State, which started its day -- and its 2011 season -- with a win over Lasell.

The Blue Devils wasted no time gaining the upper hand. Bartkowiak led off the game with a single, stole second, and scored on a double by Lis. A single by Vesneske scored Lis to up the lead to 2-0.

Worcester State got one of the runs back in its half of the first inning before the Blue Devils then scored three runs in the third inning. Singles by Vesneske and Michelle Lattner followed by an infield groundout put runners on second and third with two outs. Vesneske scored on a wild pitch ahead of a two-run homer by Larson.

A solo homer by Bartkowiak in the sixth inning completed the scoring. It was her fourth homer in six games this spring.

Alyssa Brognano pitched the first four innings to get the win, her second so far to go along with two saves. She allowed both Worcester State runs on seven hits. Raela Wiley pitched three scoreless innings in relief. Wiley gave up one hit, struck out one, and induced six groundball outs. Neither pitcher walked a batter.

The Blue Devils are back in action at 9 a.m. Monday against New England University, followed by an 11 a.m. game vs. Richard Stockton. Both games will be played at the Cape Coral Sports Complex.
