FREDONIA, N.Y.—The Fredonia State Blue Devils came up short in their push for a final SUNYAC playoff spot as they fell to the Plattsburgh Cardinals, 51-46, at Steele Hall.

The Blue Devils and Cardinals were both in position to reach the playoffs with a win. The Cardinals will wait to see the results of both the Brockport and Potsdam scores to see their seeding in the playoffs.

Fredonia State got off to a slow start in the first half, falling behind 15-3 eight minutes into the game. The Blue Devils battled back, multiple times cutting their deficit to three points.

A Becky Hebert lay-up with 1:18 to play in the second half put the Devils down just two, 45-43. The Cardinals went 4-4 from the free throw line in the last minute to eventually take the win and knock the Blue Devils out of playoff contention.

Hebert finished the game with a team-high 10 points. Liz Wierbinski contributed seven points and seven rebounds.

Taylor Amarando and Kathleen Payne had 17 and 10 points, respectively, for Plattsburgh.

The game marked the final contest for Fredonia State seniors Caroline Hourihan and Courtney Kingston. Hourihan matched Wierbinski's seven rebounds to lead the team, and also added four points.
