Cardinals take down Devils in season finale

FREDONIA, N.Y.—The Fredonia State Blue Devils dropped their final game of the season, falling to the Plattsburgh Cardinals 78-57 at Steele Hall.

The Blue Devils finished the season at 3-15 in the SUNYAC and 6-18 overall. The Cardinals move into the SUNYAC playoffs with a record of 12-6.

Plattsburgh jumped on the Blue Devils early as Chris Ruiz and Carl Munnerlyn scored 23 of the first 25 points for the Cardinals. The two combined to hit seven of their first eight three-point attempts. The Cardinals took a 44-27 lead into the half and never looked back.

Kevin Mitchell provided multiple dunks for the Blue Devils and finished with a team-high 15 points. The game was also the final one for the lone Blue Devil senior, Ricardo Rose.

Ruiz scored a game-high 22 points. Munnerlyn finished with 21 points and shot 6 of 9 from behind the arc for the playoff-bound Cardinals.
