FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Sophomore forward
Alex Perkins scored all three goals in Fredonia State's 3-1 home win Friday over Johnson and Wales.
The goals were the first three of the season for Perkins, who had one goal last year as a freshman.
Mark Friesen made 32 saves as the Blue Devils improved to 5-4-3.
Johnson and Wales goaltender Matt Cooper was credited with 29 saves, several of them on difficult shots. The Wildcats fell to 6-2-1.
Perkins opened the scoring at 15:21 of the first period. He picked up a loose puck in front of the net and jammed it past Cooper.
The score remained 1-0 until 8:26 of the third period. Stationed nearr the top of the left face-off, Perkins deflected a shot from the blue line by freshman defenseman
Mike Monfredo.
Perkins completed the natural hattrick at 11:19 when he scored from the right wing.
The Wildcats' lone goal was a short-handed breakaway by Justin Decowski. His shot into the top of the net came at 14:09 of the final period.
It was the 10th meeting all-time between the teams. Fredonia State has won all 10 meetings.
The teams are back in action at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Steele Hall Ice Arena.
