ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team outscored Oneonta in the second half, but it was not enough to recover from a slow start as the Devils fell, 56-47.
Down 25-12 at the break, the Devils outscored the Red Dragons 35-31 in the second half.
Fredonia State got within seven points at 46-39 on a pair of free throws by
Jaimie Warren with 2:46 remaining in the game. The Red Dragons quickly expanded the lead back to 11 points on a three-point play by
Grace Schilling and a free throw by Madison Slagle.
The Devils were led by
Becky Hebert with 15 points and Warren's 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Warren was a perfect 8 of 8 from the free throw line.
The Devils held a 39-37 edge in rebounding, but were slowed by inefficiency from the field, shooting 25 percent for the game. Conversely, the Devils shot 89 percent (16 of 18) from the free throw line.
Oneonta (3-3, 2-0 SUNYAC) was led by Slagle with 15 points.
The Devils (3-4, 0-2) are back in Steele Hall for a non-conference game vs. Allegheny on Tuesday.
