The Blue Devils moved their timetable up by 20 minutes Friday in a 5-1SUNYAC win over the Morrisville State Mustangs.
The Blue Devils erased a 1-0 deficit with second-period goals by senior
Bryan Ross and freshman
Stephen Castriota.
They then dominated the third period as
Andrew Christ,
Mike Monfredo, and
Mat Hehr added goals.
Mark Friesen made 27saves for the Blue Devils, who outshot the Mustangs 41-28.
The Blue Devils improved to 3-1-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the SUNYAC. The Mustangs fell to 2-1-0 both overall and in the conference.
One game disqualification penalty and one game misconduct left the Blue Devils short two skaters – a defenseman and a forward – by midway through the second period.
Rather than fold, they put together a solid second period. First, Ross tied the score at 8:06 with his first goal of the season. Castriota gave his team a 2-1 lead at 19:32 as the teams were skating 4-on-4. It was his third goal of the year, and his first game-winner as a collegian
Christ and Monfredo scored power-play goals at 5:57 and 9:11 of the third period, respectively. It was Christ's second this season, and Monfredo's first as a collegian.
Hehr put the finishing touches on the win with his third goal at 15:20.
Matthew Beer scored the Morrisville State goal at 8:04 of the first period.
Ross and Castriota each a goal and an assist in the game. The two points moved Ross into a tie with Peter Varrone for 14th on the Blue Devil career scoring list with 106 points each.
The Blue Devils travel to Penn State to face the Nittary Lion club team at 7 p.m. Saturday.
