ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team moved to 5-0 on Tuesday, dropping the Elmira Soaring Eagles, 71-45.

The Devils held a modest 29-21 lead at the break before outscoring Elmira by 18 points in the second half, 42-24.

The Devils winning formula consisted of the usual tight defense and a sizzling offense. The Devils limited Elmira to a paltry 29 percent (15 of 51) shooting for the game, while shooting 63 percent (24 of 38) from the field. Fredonia State also connected on 10 of 18 three pointers (58 percent). The Devils outrebounded Elmira, 38-20.

Jonathan Herrera led the offense with 16 points, including 4 of 7 shooting from long range. Amir Billups finished with 12 points, while Dalton Kashmer and Kevin Mitchell had 10 apiece. Kashmer was 4 of 4 from the field and finished with 6 rebounds. Leonard Smith also added 6 boards.

Elmira (0-6) was led by Josh Keys with 18 points.

The Devils open the SUNYAC portion of the season this weekend when they visit New Paltz on Friday and Oneonta on Saturday.
