KINGSTON, N.Y. -- Fredonia State fell to New Paltz, 1-0, in a SUNYAC women's soccer semfinal Wednesday afternoon.

Samantha Abravanel scored at 65:07 when she connected off the rebound of a header that Blue Devil junior goalkeeper Meaghan Meszaros had saved.

The victory was New Paltz's first-ever SUNYAC Tournament victory in women's soccer. The Hawks (12-5-2) will face either Geneseo or Cortland for the conference title Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Blue Devils' season ends with a 12-8 record. They were attempting to advance to the SUNYAC championship game for the first time on their third try. Other semifinal ousters came in 2005 and 2009.

The Blue Devils were outshot, 15-10, in Wednesday's semifinal, played on the artificial surface at Dietz Memorial Stadium. None of the Blue Devil shots were on goal.

Meszaros finished with eight saves while New Paltz's Stephanie Vega was not called on to make a single save. Nonetheless, it was Vega's school-record 11th shutout of the season.

Four Blue Devil seniors completed their final season of women's soccer eligibility: midfielder Emily Beh, midfielder Melissa Cummiskey, defender Lyz Dembrow, and forward Lindsay Putman.
