ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Despite a late challenge, the Fredonia State women's basketball team dropped its opening game at Nazareth, 76-65, on Tuesday.
Down 75-50 with three minutes remaining, the Devils had a 15-point run to pull within ten, 75-65, before Nazareth connected on a free throw and time ran out.
Nazareth came out strong to open the game, scoring the first 10 points. Katie Kollar nailed a three-pointer at the 16:05 mark to give the Golden Flyers the 10-0 advantage.
Nazareth led 37-28 at the break.
The Devils were led by sophomore
Becky Hebert with 21 points. Senior
Nicole Calbi added 14 points and 8 assists.
Jenna Austin had 10 points, and
Anna Riley grabbed 10 boards.
Nazareth (1-0) was paced by Kollar with 20 points. Brittany Wilson added 13 and Brittany Tallcheif chipped in 12.
The Devils travel to Susquehanna College for the Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-off Tournament this weekend.
