BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y.- Fredonia State men's soccer team defeated Cortland State 3 -1 Saturday at University Stadium.
The Blue Devils got on the board early with a penalty kick goal by
Tyler Williams, his eighth of the season.
Fredonia State's second goal came from
Ryan Smith, who was assisted by a header from
Gabe Esposito at 33:49.
Cortland scored its first goal in the second half with a goal by Lukas Wear who was assisted by Steffen Jude at 58:12.
Fredonia State responded just over two minutes later when
Gabe Esposito put one past the Cortland goalkeeper from
Matt Grabowski to make it a 3-1 game. The goal was Esposito's first career score.
Goalkeeper
Bobby McGinnis recorded 9 saves and improves to 7-4-0 for the season. The Blue Devils outshot Cortland 21-18.
This win puts the Blue Devils at 10-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in SUNYAC play. Cortland's loss puts them at 2-6-5 overall and 1-3-2 in SUNYAC play.
The Fredonia State Blue Devils continue SUNYAC play next weekend when they travel to take on SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Potsdam the following day.
