Jake Persons scored the Devils' lone goal in a 4-1 loss at Plattsburgh.

BOXSCORE PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's soccer team came up short on it's first of two games in the North Country, as Plattsburgh downed the Devils, 4-1, on Friday.

Plattsburgh took control right away, scoring 1:10 into the game. Another pair of first-half goals gave the Cardinals a 3-0 advantage at the break.

Jake Persons would get the Devils on the board four-and-a-half minutes into the second half. Persons produced a header off of a Cory Paine assist, his second goal of the season.

Plattsburgh answered back four minutes later with its fourth goal of the match, as Nick Parrella collected his fifth goal of the season in the 54th minute. Pat Shauhnessy finished the game with one goal and two assists for the Cardinals.

Plattsburgh held advantages in shots (11-7) and shots on goal (6-2). The Devils held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. Bobby McGinnis made four saves and surrendered four goals in 79:30 before giving way to A.J. Grecco for the final 10:30. Grecco did not see a shot on goal. Plattsburgh netminder Andy Heighington made one save and allowed one goal.

Plattsburgh ups its record to 10-2-2, and 2-2-2 in conference play. Prior to the game, the Cardinals were ranked 9th in the NCAA East Region, and the Devils ranked 10th.

Fredonia State falls to 10-5-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the SUNYAC. They take on Potsdam tomorrow.
