FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The women's basketball tip-off at Oneonta, scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, marks the first action by a Fredonia State team in 2011.

The Blue Devils enter weekend play at 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
“We are staying focused on continuing to mature and get better as a unit with our young team,” head coach Donna Wise said. “We have had several close games in our first eight games that have challenged us and prepared us for SUNYAC competition. We are looking for players to step up their game for more constant and productive team play.”

Oneonta is 8-1 and 2-0.

The Blue Devils continue their eastern trip with a road game Saturday afternoon at New Paltz, a 2 o'clock start. The Hawks are 4-5 and 2-0 at the start of weekend play.
Junior guard Nicole Calbi has been Fredonia State's top player so far. She leads the team in scoring average (9.4), total steals (15), and total assists (24). Her 3.0 assists-per-game ratio is tied for fifth in the SUNYAC.

Meanwhile, freshman guard-forward Becky Hebert is second on the team in scoring average (9.0) and first in rebounding average (5.4), and junior forward Liz Wierbinski is fifth in the conference in free-throw percentage (23 of 29, .793).
