Late loss for Devils

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The Devils fell just short in a see-saw game, dropping a 64-61 SUNYAC contest at Plattsburgh on Friday.

Mid-way through the second half, the Devils took the lead for the first time since the early minutes of the game. With 10:31 left to play, Liz Wierbinksi nailed a jumper to give the Devils a 44-43 lead.
 
Plattsburgh nailed a three pointer and a jumper to regain the lead, 48-44. The Devils then went on a 10-0 run to make it 54-48 with 6:11 left.

Plattsburgh would regain the lead at 3:23 as Kathleen Payne cut to the hoop to give the Cardinals a 57-56 lead. Following a pair of free throws by Plattsburgh's Dana Nucaro, Caroline Hourihan nailed a long three to tie the game at 59-all with 1:39 left.

Ashley Gyscek then hit a layup to give Plattsburgh a lead they would not surrender.

Plattsburgh led 30-25 at the break. They twice held a lead of 10 points, their biggest of the half, late in the frame.

Hourihan finished with 14 points, including four three pointers, to top the Devils. Wierbinski added 12 points. Jaime Warren had six rebounds. The Devils accounted for 14 steals in the game.

Plattsburgh (6-7 overall, 3-4 SUNYAC) was paced by Payne with 21 points, and Nucaro added 12. Plattsburgh held a 43-37 edge in rebounds.

The Devils  (2-11, 0-7 SUNYAC)  travel to Potsdam on Saturday.
