FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Jordan Oye scored two goals in less than a minute apart as Fredonia State, saddled with two five-minute penalties to kill, still outshot and outscored Cortland, 6-2, in SUNYAC action Friday.

Oye scored twice in the second period, giving him a team-high 15 on the season. Andrew Christ, Mat Hehr, Bradley Nunn, and Bryan Ross added one goal each for the Blue Devils, who outshot the Red Dragons, 42-21.

The win lifted Fredonia State to 9-9 overall and 4-6 in the SUNYAC heading into a date with the No. 1 ranked Oswego Lakers at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Steele Hall Ice Arena. Meanwhile, Cortland fell to 3-13-1 overall and 2-7-0 in the conference.

Fredonia State entered the game as the fifth least penalized team in Division III, yet lost two players to 10-minute game misconducts in the first two periods. Nonetheless, the Blue Devils had the advantage on special teams. They were 3 of 7 on the power play, while Cortland was 1 of 4.

Cortland's Michael Lysyj opened the scoring at 3:42 of the first period. Christ countered for the Blue Devils at 7:44, forging a 1-1 tie. Later in the period, he was penalized for making contact to the head of a Cortland player, an offense which results in a five-minute major and a 10-minute game misconduct.

Cortland's power play carried over into the second period, yet did not net a Red Dragon goal. Instead, the Blue Devils took a 3-1 lead when Oye scored his first of two goals right after the teams had returned to even-strength.

Less than a minute after Oye had scored, Hehr was sent to the locker for checking from behind, putting the Blue Devils down to 10 forwards for the remainder of the game. Each team scored a goal during Cortland's second five-minute power play.

First, Chris Jung bounced a pass off the board ahead to Oye, who skated in alone for a short-handed goal to make it 4-1 Blue Devils. The Red Dragons finally cashed in on the lengthy man-advantage when Chris Kaleta scored his fourth goal of the season to cut the Fredonia State lead to 4-2.

The Blue Devils got the goal back on their own power play when Nunn converted at 17:21, his second goal of the year, and the period ended with the Blue Devils up 5-2. Ross scored Fredonia State's final goal during a 5-on-3 advantage early in the third period.

Jeff Holloway made the start in goal for the Blue Devils and finished with 19 saves. Mike Reilly started for the Red Dragons and made 27 saves before leaving the game after two periods with an apparent injury. Dan Jewell made nine saves in the third period.
