Devils finish second at Cortland

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State defeated Cortland in its own floor before falling to Lebanon Valley in the championship match Saturday of the Cortland Red Dragon Classic.

The Blue Devils (3-1) defeated their SUNYAC rivals, 3-1, in the semifinal match. Set scores were 25-17, 25-23, 18-25 and 25-20. Sophomore setter Brittany Lis (Lancaster), later named to the all-tournament team, collected 34 assists and 14 digs, while junior Chelsea Senn (Hamburg/Frontier) had 12 kills and senior Kaitlin Erdmann (Randolph) had 11. In addition, junior Sarah Zurech (Lancaster/St. Mary's of Lancaster) was credited with 15 digs and junior Jennifer Michelsen (Lakeview/Frontier) was credited with 13.

Lebanon Valley won the Red Dragon Classic for the second straight year with a 3-0 victory over the Blue Devils, who saved their best effort for the final set. After losing 25-17 and 25-15, the Blue Devils fell 25-23 in the third set. Lis finished with 19 assists and 11 digs, Zurech had 13 digs, and Senn had five kills.

The Blue Devils return to action Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Alfred University at Dods Hall. It's the first home match of the season.
