Up and down trend continues

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State continued on its up-and-down season with a 3-0 loss Tuesday to Allegheny at Dods Hall. The 25-14, 25-23, 25-20 setback marked the first time this season the Blue Devils -- 6-4 overall -- failed to follow a loss with a win.

On the other hand, the Blue Devils have yet to win more than three straight matches at any point this season.

The Blue Devils outhit the Gators, 29-24 in total blocks, but were guilty of 15 service errors with only four aces. Allegheny countered with six aces and only nine service errors.

Fredonia State's top hitter was Jenna Tatu (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) with eight kills. Chelsea Senn (Hamburg/Frontier) added five kills and four blocks. Jessica Ernstberger (Rochester/Greece Arcadia) collected 20 sets, while Sarah Zureck (Lancaster/St. Mary's of Lancaster) had 10 digs and 19 receptions.

For the Gators (3-7), Jordan Leopold (Valencia, Pa.) was credited with nine kills, Claire DeLucia (Pittsburgh, Pa.) with 13 digs, and Madie Hudac (Mars, Pa.) with 23 assists.

Fredonia State returns to tournament with four matches over two days of the Hawks Invitational at New Paltz. The Blue Devils and host Hawks meet in an opening round match beginning at 4 p.m. Friday. Fredonia State also meets Johnson & Wales at 8 p.m. Friday, and Mount St. Mary's and Clarkson on Saturday.

The next Blue Devil home game is Sept. 29 vs. Nazareth.
