FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's tennis team defeated Brockport, 6-3, on the third and final day of SUNYAC Pool Play on Sunday. A pair of seniors accounted for three points, while a pair of freshmen won their singles matches.
The Devils finished the weekend 2-1, defeating Oswego on Friday, and falling to Geneseo on Saturday.
For the Devils, seniors Anna Norris (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) and Calee Prindle (Geneva) were double winners. Norris won No. 1 singles and Prindle won No. 2 singles. The duo combined to win No. 1 doubles.
Freshmen Jessica Johnston (Fredonia) and Ali Phillips (Orchard Park), No. 3 and No. 5 singles, respectively, had a strong showing, both improving to 3-1 on the season. "They have been a nice surprise and have been playing really well," said head coach Joe Calarco. "They are a key to the success of the team right now."
Sophomore Katrina Johnston (Fredonia) accounted for the team's other victory, winning No. 3 singles.
Chelsea Mang (Lancaster/Depew) had a strong showing at No. 6 singles. She fell 6-2 and 7-6 (7-4) in a match that took nearly two-and-a-half hours.
The Devils are 2-2 overall and travel D'Youville on Wednesday.
