FREDONIA, N.Y.— The Fredonia State women's basketball team fell to the visiting Oswego State Lakers 73-68 in a SUNYAC contest at Steele Hall.
The Blue Devils record falls to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference while Oswego State remains unbeaten with a 4-0 record and 1-0 in the conference.
The Lakers used an aggressive defense to score 14 points off of 15 Fredonia State turnovers in the first half. Oswego State led by as many as 10 points, but the Devils kept the game within reach.
The Devils would gain their first lead of the game, 27-26, following a layup by Becky Hebert with 2:53 left in the half. The Lakers would take a 34-29 lead into the break. Hebert led the Devils with 10 points.
Fredonia State came out firing to start the second half, going on a 13-3 run to take a 42-37 lead. From there on out, the game saw a back and forth struggle with five ties and nine lead changes.
Tied 64-all with 2:26 left in regulation, Oswego's Megan Stover nailed a three-pointer. The Devils countered with a pair of free throws by Jaimie Warren, to cut Oswego's lead to 67-66.
Jenna Rossi followed with another three pointer for the Lakers to give them a 70-66 lead with 1:13 with left to play. They would hang on for the 73-68 victory.
Hebert paced the Devils with a double-double, scoring 18 points and collecting 11 rebounds, both career highs for the freshman. Grace Moore and Caroline Hourihan scored in double figures with 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Meagan Stover led the way for the Lakers with 18 points. Kayla Ryan scored 16 points on 5-10 shooting from the floor.
Fredonia State is back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. as they take on the Cortland Red Dragons in another SUNYAC match-up at Steele Hall as part of the “Blue Devil Blue Out".
